Time in astrological Terms

Picture P50

Now let’s try to take Time to pieces, in astrological terms. I think it will help to see how Astrology, as the concept of Archetypes, contributes our everyday life.

As we know, the Time cycle includes

Second → Minute → Hour → Day → Month → Season → Year

Year is a period it takes Earth to complete a full orbit around Sun through the 12 zodiacal constellations, that is equal to 12 months.

Nowadays, Season is a division between 2 points on the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator, with 4 points in total: the 2 points of Equinox and the 2 points of Solstice. By the way, it was not always. For example, the ancient Egyptians were based on 3 Seasons.

Month is a deliberate attempt “to marry” Sun and Moon where 4 weeks reflect the cycle of the 4 phases of Moon: New Moon, Waxing Half Moon, Full Moon and Waning Half Moon. The main difficulty is that the period of 28 days does not line up with the actual lunar phases of 29.53 days… But we are progressing in solving this problem with a small error in 27 sec/year (1 day in 3236 years).

Week is made up of 7 days in honor the most important astrological objects seen in the heavens: Sun (Sunday), Moon (Monday), Mars (Tuesday), Mercury (Wednesday), Jupiter (Thursday), Venus (Friday), Saturn (Saturday).

Day is connected to the zodiacal circle and the abode of Sun (Day/Night) as 12 x 2. This system is in use approximately since 2000 BC when the ancient Egyptians subdivided daytime and nighttime into 12 hours each. The ancient Babylonians did use the system of 12 hours in total, in strict accordance with the Zodiac.

HourMinute

Here we have come to the most interesting question. Why 60? I mean why an hour is equal to 60 minutes and one minute has got 60 seconds… I know that Physics has an explanation on this point, in case of interest you can find some info in Wikipedia, and if you are satisfied with it, please stop reading this post 🙂 because I am going to explain 60 with a completely different sense.

I am not sure about 60 directly in Astrology but I know for sure where 60 is a fundamental idea. It is Sefer Yetzirah, an ancient treatise on mathematical and linguistic theory and, according to some sources, the earliest book on esotericism Kabbalah, where 60 = 10 x 6 as

10 Sephiroth or 10 celestial emanations and attributes of God with which he continually sustains the Universe in existence. We can see them on the picture above as the Tree of Life with 3 basic + 7 additional Sephiroth

6 is the sixth Sephirot Tiferet named Miracles or Beauty, the sixth Major Arcanum in Tarot – the Lovers, and it is also a number of the planet Venus, the goddess of Love, in Astrology. As we can guess, 6 means Love.

So, the occult meaning of 60 is the following idea

The Infinity (God) has created the Universe to express his desire for Love

On this basis the concept of Time with 60 seconds and 60 minutes sounds like

Every minute, every hour we exist because the Universe (God) gives us the Power and Love

Well, I can imagine what the physicists will think about 🙂 but from my point of view it looks… beautiful.
